Trail Review: Brown County State Park – Trail 7

Brown County Ogle Lake Length: 1.5 miles

Difficulty: Moderate

  • Views of Ogle Lake
  • Turtles aplenty in the water
  • Picnic tables and benches at several points along the trail
  • Great fishing spots

  • Restrooms by the parking lot
  • Picnic areas

Options: Trail 7 connects to Trail 9 not too far from the trailhead. This is the infamous never-ending hike I wasn’t sure I’d survive as a wee beginner. Trail 9 itself is nearly nine miles, and you’ll cover well over 10 miles if you loop Ogle and complete 7 as well. It’s a beautiful route, but make sure you’re prepared.

Best For: Fishing, picnics, water views, and moderate family hikes

Our Experience: We love water views, so Trail 7 is another top pick on our list. Slightly more strenuous than Trail 6, this will put the kids through their paces, but our 4-year-old still powered through without a problem.

We took the boys to Ogle Lake for their first-ever fishing trip, and the ample shore access made it a perfect pick for carving out a little spot for the first-timers to try their hand casting out.
